VWS News-Claremont Opera House Opening

Hi all- just a quick note to remind you that the opening for our show at the Claremont Opera House is tonight from 5-7 PM. It WILL be held - according to weather reports the snowstorm should be over by noon. Everyone should, however, travel at their own discretion.

Here's a note from Rob O'Brien, our Director of Exhibitions:

Hi Cindy,
Please pass this on to the membership.
We had a successful hanging of our first show in New Hampshire thanks to the help of many volunteers. There are 36 pieces represented and the show looks wonderful! As usual, there is quite a variety of work and sizes.
Thanks to Lois Macuga, Barb Tampasis, Jud and Sandy Pealer, Cathy Finnegan, Judy Laliberte, Diane Liggett, Loretta Wetzel and a special thanks to Everett Webber who hung in there till the very end. Thank you all for a job well done!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the opening, Friday, January 18th, at 5pm.
Rob

As always, you can find this and earlier newsletters on OUR web site:

I look forward to seeing you all at these shows, and perhaps meeting some of our new members. Please DO come to the openings, even if you are not in the show. It is a great opportunity to see our own work, meet and greet each other, and support the galleries and members who have worked so hard to make these events happen.
A special thanks to members Diane Liggett for securing and coordinating the Claremont show, and Sheryl Trainor for securing and coordinating the AVA show. And of course, Rob O’Brien, our Exhibition Director is always working behind the scenes, making sure everything is working smoothly as well as helping with hanging shows, and contributing time and energy to receptions, and getting postcards printed and mailed. Thanks too, to those of you who have been assisting him- I am sorry I don’t have names at this moment.

One final thought: I know some of you are not getting these emails. The feedback is inconsistent, so I never quite know what mail is going to “bounce”. Unfortunately, I have no control over how your computer processes your mail, but I would suggest checking your spam filters for messages, and enabling my mailing address if necessary. Meanwhile, keep checking our website to be sure you didn’t miss anything, and I will try to notify those of you whose mail consistently bounces.

VWS Newsletter 1-2-08

Greetings of the New Year to all!!

I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful snow and converting it to stunning paintings (I know you can), for our upcoming shows. We have a busy winter/spring schedule with our first show coming up in just 2 weeks!!

DUES: If you haven’t sent in your dues for 2008, you are now delinquent. You cannot participate in shows unless your dues are paid BEFORE the drop-off times. Grace period extends till March 31, after which your membership becomes “inactive”. That status can be remedied by paying anytime, but an “inactive” member loses signature status if you remain inactive for 1 year, and you must start the process over to regain it. Note: New members are active as soon as they join and pay their dues, any time of the year.

Here’s the Show Schedule and information:

SHOW DATES: JANUARY 18- FEBRUARY 23
DELIVERY: TUESDAY, JANUARY 15, 10 AM-1 PM

SPECIAL NOTE- GREAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:

RJOARTIST@YAHOO.COM 802-263-9394

AVA GALLERY SHOW:

QUALIFICATION: VWS SIGNATURE MEMBERS ONLY. 2 ENTRIES EACH
REQUIREMENTS: QUALITY WOODEN FRAMES, WHITE OR NEUTRAL MATS, NO SIZE LIMITATION. PROPER HANGING WIRE.
OPENING RECEPTION: FEB 29, 5-7 PM

More information forthcoming.

NOTE: Decisions about shows such as the type (open, juried, special, signature members, etc.) are generally made by the Galleries, not the VWS Board of Directors. We inquire about a venue, show them our work via your slides and web pages, tell them who we are and what we do, and the galleries state their terms. Sometimes they will want to jury a show but not a postcard, for instance. There are many variations on this theme. I am just skimming the surface of this process to give everyone some idea of how it works. You can find out more if you wish, by volunteering to serve of the Exhibition Committee, chaired by Rob O’Brien.

There is another reason I am telling you this now- you will notice that our shows this year are mostly in Southern Vermont and New Hampshire so far. We have been trying very hard to find a venue “up North”, but as yet, no luck. It just happens that for the past few years, our most active show-seekers have all lived in the Southern or Central part of Vermont and New Hampshire. Please contact Rob if you think you know of a gallery that would like to host a show in, say, the Burlington area, or for that matter, near where you live. We can’t diversify without your help. It really matters when a person who inquires about a show is already known to that gallery or the gallery has heard of VWS! (Exit soapbox).

I look forward to seeing everyone at our 2 upcoming shows- they are both excellent locations and exciting venues. And there are more to come!

Stay Tuned.
