Spring Meeting at the Quechee Club

The Spring meeting on Sunday, April 26, 2009 is coming together and promises to be well worth attending. The Board has chosen a new location this time at the Quechee Club, 3268 Quechee Main St., Quechee, making travel a bit easier for all. The meeting will begin at 11am and will conclude at 3:15pm. We are delighted to have Susan Abbott an internationally renown artist and teacher as our keynote speaker. Additionally, VWS member Robert Sydorowich, long-time painter from Andover, Vermont will present a watercolor demonstration for the membership. The vendor this time is the Drawing Board, an art and frame store from Montpelier. They will be available from 11 am to 1 pm.

The meeting will feature another used art book sale, but this time DVDs and art videos are included. This is a wonderful way to have fun, add new books and DVD's to your library, and at the same time, raise a little extra money for your Society. This is how it works! Attendees are encouraged to bring a used art related book(s) or used DVD(s) that are then purchased by other member attendees. Please price your items from $5 to $10 depending on the condition for books and $10 to $12 for DVDs.

Meeting schedule
10:30 - 11:30 check-in & vendor visit
11:30 - 12:00 business meeting
12:00 - 12:45 lunch & vendor visit

Keynote

Susan Abbott graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA and MFA in painting from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. She has worked as a professional artist since that time, exhibiting in galleries and museums around the country, and her paintings are represented in numerous corporate and individual collections.

Her work has been featured in publications that include "American Artist," "International Artist" and "Watercolor Magazine," and in national media such as the Oprah Winfrey Show and Diane Rehm Show on NPR.

Reviewers have praised Abbott's "virtuosity" and "dazzling skill in the unforgiving medium of watercolor" and have described her pieces as "fantastic studies of color and form and sublime everyday epics." She has been a recipient of a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council, and an Individual Artist Grant from the Maryland Art Council. In 2009, Abbott was one of ten artists chosen to receive an "Art of Action" grant commissioning a suite of paintings that address the future of Vermont. Susan Abbott is also a popular teacher of art workshops in France, Italy, India and sites around the United States.

You can see some of her work at http://www.susanabbott.com.

Demonstration

Robert Sydorowich
of Andover, Vermont paints the Vermont countryside, where he has lived for over forty years. He works in oils and in the transparent watercolor media
style, "Trying to capture the simple small town life in and around Andover Vermont."

Reminiscent of the impressionist movement, Sydorowich's work portrays "real places, real people, real life situations." He studied art and architecture at Pratt Institute and The New School for Social Research in New York City. See Bob's work at http://www.sydorowich.com.
