VWS Newsletter 1-2-08

Greetings of the New Year to all!!

I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful snow and converting it to stunning paintings (I know you can), for our upcoming shows. We have a busy winter/spring schedule with our first show coming up in just 2 weeks!!

DUES: If you haven’t sent in your dues for 2008, you are now delinquent. You cannot participate in shows unless your dues are paid BEFORE the drop-off times. Grace period extends till March 31, after which your membership becomes “inactive”. That status can be remedied by paying anytime, but an “inactive” member loses signature status if you remain inactive for 1 year, and you must start the process over to regain it. Note: New members are active as soon as they join and pay their dues, any time of the year.

Here’s the Show Schedule and information:

NOTE: Decisions about shows such as the type (open, juried, special, signature members, etc.) are generally made by the Galleries, not the VWS Board of Directors. We inquire about a venue, show them our work via your slides and web pages, tell them who we are and what we do, and the galleries state their terms. Sometimes they will want to jury a show but not a postcard, for instance. There are many variations on this theme. I am just skimming the surface of this process to give everyone some idea of how it works. You can find out more if you wish, by volunteering to serve of the Exhibition Committee, chaired by Rob O’Brien.

There is another reason I am telling you this now- you will notice that our shows this year are mostly in Southern Vermont and New Hampshire so far. We have been trying very hard to find a venue “up North”, but as yet, no luck. It just happens that for the past few years, our most active show-seekers have all lived in the Southern or Central part of Vermont and New Hampshire. Please contact Rob if you think you know of a gallery that would like to host a show in, say, the Burlington area, or for that matter, near where you live. We can’t diversify without your help. It really matters when a person who inquires about a show is already known to that gallery or the gallery has heard of VWS! (Exit soapbox).

I look forward to seeing everyone at our 2 upcoming shows- they are both excellent locations and exciting venues. And there are more to come!

Stay Tuned.
